SINGLE REVIEW

Requiem For The Dead is back with a brand new single from their upcoming album "The Explainable Truth" after a long break. The band has been working hard the last months to prepare for their new album and an upcoming European tour. During the recording process there's also been a new line up change, like last time when they released "Memories". But will this affect the writing and style of the band? Well see.

Their new single "Say Hello To The Devil For Me" is a song that starts with the overal familiar RFTD theme, but still adds a new type of style that sounds like Avenged Sevenfold. They decided to go for a screamo/hardcore style with the singing on the main verses, which is really cool if they could pull it off. It sounds like the lead singer has trouble screaming the parts because it sounds very forced and it makes me think if he was sitting on the toilet while doing it. Overall the song has a good RFTD vibe but also reminds you a lot of I Am Ghost. Not sure what they are aiming for style vise for this album but it looks like they have a urge of changing style for each time they release an album and members. Looking forward to the album to see what helse they have mixed up.

Not their best song, but still a good tune!

"A song makes more sense with a video"

It's obvious that the guys in Requiem For The Dead are working hard these days. They just released a new EP, played tons of shows, working on full length album and now releasing a new music video.

Frontman Steven Juliano and the boys never disappoints, and i have to say that this video is really cool, it's well made and you can see they spent a lot of time and money on it. The art of Steven Juliano is well portrayed in this video, which i love because he is an amazing skilled artist, not only musically but also artistically. 

I think Poison Girl embarks on a colorful journey that resembles both movies Tim burton's "Alice In Wonderland" and the Original cartoon from 1951.

A story that focus on a young girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures.

What i love about this video is that i haven't seen anyone else done such a thing, except for Avril Lavigne's music video "Alice" but that was mostly scenes used from the movie. This version is created from scratch using graphic pictures mixed with live action sequences.

So if you love the story or grew up watching it as a kid you will have no problem enjoying this new interpretation of Lewis Caroll's tale. The song is perfect for the video, and i think old and new fans will totally dig it.

This is another one of those songs that I'll sing super loudly and give a damn about if i kill my neighbours ears.

ALBUM REVIEW - MEMORIES

It's been a couple of years since Requiem For The Dead released their debut album "Always and Forever" a album that sounded more punk/rock rather than the goth/vampire sound, we all were used to when Steven Juliano played in I Am Ghost. The band also went through a new line up change when Ty Oliver, the original guitarist decided to go a different way and focus on his new band "Fiction Killer" The band then recruited Ryan Heggum to take over the shredding business, and he fails to disappoint.

Memories is a album that could be taken out of a Tim Burton movie. The opening song is really creepy and eerie, but then, Steven Juliano has worked with Tim Burton. The EP doesn't give you a kick in the face, but focus on great dark nostalgic rush of rock n' roll, way more than "Always and Forever" and gives you great songs like "Poison Girl" -Scream out your name? The two of us were so pathetic. Rest in peace to poison girl and poison days "Ghost of Winter" -Carolyn, will you open up your eyes? Hold on and let's pretend tonight will never end. Even the cover of Cutting Crew's "I just Died In Your Arms Tonight"really fits very well on this EP.

The guys has done an incredible job and i instantly fell in love with this EP, wishing they actually made a whole album instead of an EP. There is a lot of emotion put into the creation of these songs, which you can easily hear. I love the new sound Requiem For The Dead has gone for, something i hope they will stick to in the near future. These guys will make it big if they continue going in this direction.

Memories will be out february 13th through Veda & Isis Studios.

1. Lost But Not Forgotten (A Suite) - Something that could easily be used in a Tim Burton movie, like "Alice In Wonderland" or on a I Am Ghost album. The song shows great sadness, female vocals, before Steven joins in on the end of the song. 

2. Poison Girl - Straight forward song that begins with a catchy sad piano before it kicks in with a vampiric rock tune.

3. Ghost of Winter - The best song on the album, with an opening of a radio that plays different tunes going back and forth, before a sweet clean guitar kicks in backed by a drum loop and piano parts. A song MEST could have done on their latest album "Photograph" highlighted by the catchy chorus line "Carolyn, will you open up your eyes?" 

4. Memories - "Does it hurt when the lights go out? They laid you down next to me", Steven sings, presumably with tears dripping down his chin on this beautiful acoustic song, backed up with sweet low cello's and piano's in the background. The melody is gripping and could remind you something from the early, The Used.

5. I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight - A really nice cover of the original done by Cutting Crew. 

ALBUM REVIEW: CALABRESE - DAYGLO NECROS

So it's that time again... A new Calabrese album.

I'm just sitting here shaking my head, what's up with these guys, can't they ever make a boring cd? clearly NOT. They have done it again, a great new album filled with gore, blood, love and a twist of Punk Rock. The Traveling Vampire Show has always been my favorite album but "Dayglo Necro" fucking drives past "TTVS" and has actually turned out to be my favorite album from Calabrese.

The album delivers a fresh new sound, catchy guitar riffs, awesome bass lines, grim rocking drums and some charming throat vocals (actually a lot) Every song is just fucking awesome, catchy as hell, i just want to get in my hearse and turn this album up loud as fuck. Beware people, a haunting zombie hearse is coming your way, with big coffin speakers on the roof...  Is hard to find a album with all songs being good.... this is one of them.

This is their BEST album so far, i'm really digging this album to the MAX. Calabrese will always be the best top HORROR rock band out there...

Get a copy and turn up the speakers.

MOVIE REVIEW: THE HAUNTED HOUSE PROJECT

Again, another documentary movie.


South Korea has jumped on the hand held/documentary genre and trying hardly to copy the same success as "The Blair Witch Project" "Paranormal Activity" and many more. Too bad, they fail.


Lately over the past years we have seen a lot of these "found footage" movies, and i haven't seen any good since "Paranormal Activity" I was really disappointed with this movie, not only did they fail with the scaring part, but the movie was too long. I never got really scared cause most of the time there was just walking around and talking. We actually don't see any ghost's or shadows, the only thing that scares you is the screaming and the heavy breathing from the actually actors, which is not scary either. Hate to say it, but this movie fails big time. I recommend watch the last 20 minutes if you want to see some scary stuff, because this movie is very slow and long.


"Over the past 42 years, six people have gone missing, eight people have died "accidently" and eleven cases of murder have occurred in a deserted house. 3 members of an abandoned house exploring club and 3 staff members of a broadcasting company go into the deserted house. All of them disappear"

MOVIE REVIEW: THE AMITYVILLE HAUNTING

Another Amityville horror movie?

Yeah, it's true, we have another Amityville Horror movie. This is the 10th movie in the series. The movie is claimed to be an actual found footage that somehow documents the horrifying experiences of a new family that moves into the house. Looks like everyone that moves into this house is being haunted by the paranormal, can't they just tell people about what's going on in this house before they put it up for sale all the time? Guess not. 

I love the story about the Amityville horror, and i think it's a disturbing story, but haven't we seen to many movies about the Amityville house? Looks like they tried to go a different way with this movie, including the found footage variant. Like we never seen any movies going in that direction. To name a few "The Blair witch Project, Paranormal Activity, [REC], Paranormal Entity, The Last Exorcism and many more.

"The movie starts with a bunch of teenagers that breaks into the Amityville house, trying to investigate the house, and yes they are filming everything. After a few  minutes we see a couple having sex. Wow, how inconvenient, it then cuts to some other teenagers who also are about to have sex, but they get interrupted by a sound, then the camera guy get's attack and blood spills all over the floor before it goes black. We then cut to the Benson family who moves into the house. Tyler Benson, a teenage boy, uses his camcorder to record the experiences of himself, his two sisters and parents at the house, and some of the story is also told through CCTV camera footage, after cameras are installed in the house. Various unexplained events occur, culminating in the deaths of all of the members of the Benson family."

Overall, I don't mind these kind of movies, but it's been done so many times. Probably a reason why it was released straight to video. 

SERIAL KILLER SPECIAL: THE GHOUL OF PLAINFIELD!

Today we talk about the famous Ed Gein. Ed Gein influenced many horror movies such as "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" "Psycho" and "The Silence Of The Lambs"


Edward Theodore "Ed" Gein born August 27, 1906 – July 26, 1984) was an American murderer and body snatcher. His crimes, committed around his hometown of Plainfield, Wisconsin, gathered widespread notoriety after authorities discovered Gein hadexhumed corpses from local graveyards and fashioned trophies and keepsakes from their bones and skin. After police found body parts in his house in 1957, Gein confessed to killing two women: tavern owner Mary Hogan, in 1954; and a Plainfield hardware store owner, Bernice Worden, in 1957.

Initially found unfit to stand trial, following confinement in a mental health facility he was tried in 1968 for the murder of Worden and sentenced to life imprisonment, which he spent in a mental hospital. The body of Bernice Worden was found in Gein's shed; her head and the head of Mary Hogan were found inside his house. Robert H. Gollmar, the judge in the Gein case, wrote: "Due to prohibitive costs, Gein was tried for only one murder — that of Mrs. Worden." With fewer than three murders attributed to him, Gein does not meet the traditional definition of a serial killer. 

CHERNOBYL DIARIES

Now this is a movie i'm really looking forward too. After seeing the trailer it really caught my attention for movies i need to watch. 


An original story by Oren Peli, "Chernobyl Diaries" is set in the city of Prypiat that once housed the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor. The horror thriller follows a group of friends who, while vacationing in Europe, find themselves stranded in the abandoned city only to discover that they are not alone.

The priest here. Thought i would fill you guys in on what's been going on with this podcast. It's been years, months, days since we have done something, and to be honest, that's a shame. Well i'm reviewing stuff here on our blog but it's ages since we were on the air. Hopefully that is about to change very soon.

Geek the freak has buried himself back into the ground, Heavy H is gone forever, Weed Jekyll is fighting zombies with the army and me, The Priest, well i'm always gonna be here, because this blog will never die no matter what.

For the final conclusion, we will be back with new episodes very soon, where we talk about your favorite horror movies/music/games/books.

Ok ghouls. Requiem For The Dead just posted on their twitter "what's everyone's favorite track off their debut album "Always and Forever" and why?" So i thought i would answer that here on our blog, because this will require a lot of writings.

Ok, let's start.

In my mind their debut album is not about having a favorite track, cause i really think this album is really great. So my favorite track is the whole album. Their song writing is incredible. It's a journey through life basically, well that's how i feel it. I know when i'm always down or in a bad mood i always listen to this album cause it gives you a feeling of hope. I really recommend people that are struggling through bad times in their life to really sit down and listen to this record. It will really help you through the rough times. Too bad the record will at some point end. Repeat is the only answer then.

Requiem For The Dead doesn't just create good music, but something you can relate to in your life.

AIDEN - SOME KIND OF HATE

Aiden's breakthrough came when they released "Nightmare Anatomy". That was the year when i started listen to them, and still i love that album, a nice blend of rock, screamo and gothic sound.

I really stopped listen to them when they released their album "Knives", cause i thought their sound took an whole new direction which kinda threw me off. That was also the year their guitarist Jake Wambold had left Aiden.

Some Kind Of Hate, really caught my attention again, just like the first time i heard of them. The new album is mixed with punk and catchy tunes that really takes you back to the old days when you were a teenager and skating through the park. For this record there were only two of the original members left.

The first song "There Will Be Blood" starts with a guy reading some lines before it burst into that old good Aiden wibe, it could easily be a song from Nightmare Anatomy. Catchy guitar riffs, mixed with punk drums.

"Broken Bones" One of the best songs on the album, gives you a Nofx drum beat with great guitar sounds and catchy vocals.

"London Dungeon" Originally by The Misfits. Aiden really loves covering their favorite bands, they also have done this on previous records, including Alkaline Trio's Radio. I think Aiden really gives this song a fresh start.

"In The End" Gives you a blend of punk song that gives you a Black Flag feeling and it cuts into a breakdown that turns slow and emotional. A really nice blend.

Overall this is a great record, takes you back to the old Aiden which i really dig, cause it sure reminds me of Nightmare Anatomy. This record is really personal according to WiL... I only wish they had all of their original members again, but the two new ones surely gives a fresh new sound to the band and that's a great thing.

Some of the highlights on the album: Broken Bones, There Will Be Blood, Deactivate, In The End, The Courage To Carry On.

BOOK REVIEW: LOVERS AND KINGS: BOOK ONE

"There is a storm coming"

Again i'm stunned by the things Steven Juliano does. From creating one the best bands that have ever existed to another new band that will be even bigger... Steven now comes out with a book... Yeah that's right people... a book, not only one... but ten. That's something i like to call the mind of a genius.

Once you start reading this book, you will never be the same. You just want more and more until there is nothing left of you. I seriously can't put this book away, it keeps you interested and focused every time. I almost got late for work, just because i couldn't put away the damn book.

Lovers And Kings takes you on a journey into a world of darkness that mixes a lot of elements that could remind you of Alice In Wonderland and Sleeping Beauty. It's like Tim Burton meets Steve Niles.

The story is based in a small town called Bezonvaux, France. The year is 1916 and a storm is approaching. As the storm came the sun disappeared and the tap-tap-tapping started again. Something was hiding under the children's bed and it wasn't the first time they would smell the dark things and the crying coming from under their beds. These things are referred as "Icky sticky dark things" and has been hiding under their beds for a long time. Obviously these things want these children..... When a fifth child is being found guttered just outside the moors. Most of the children starts to wear masks to disguise themselves when they are playing, in fear of not being kidnapped and killed. They would never ever take them off after being told that there was killer in the deep woods. The child's fingers and feet's were missing. Suddenly half of the village's children where gone missing, while some of them were found dead in their beds with oranges under their pillows..

So people, i don't want to spoil too much about this book, because i really want you all to read it for yourself... I'm guessing you all have read the 19 pages preview? so you probably know what i'm talking about.

It's not everyday you read a book and you actually smile everytime you're about to turn the next page because you are so excited for what's gonna happen. Can't wait for Book Two.

In my mind Steven has shown us a new type of book that i've never seen before. He doesn't just give us a plain simple boring type of book, where you only have black on white, but he actually gives us the whole package with awesome art created by Steven himself, more than some other book author would have done. He creates and puts everything he loves and breathes into this book which can be seen how the book is created. A fantastic book that makes ordinary books look like shit. (No offense to book lovers)

Find a dark spot in your home, turn of the lights, put on a reading lamp, get comfy in your chair and prepare yourself for a journey into the mind of Steven juliano.....

ALBUM REVIEW: ALWAYS AND FOREVER!

It's obvious that this band has already climbed the top. It's been over a year since the fall of "I AM GHOST" but that doesn't stop Steven Juliano to make even better music.

Requiem For The Dead is a new band created by Steven, Ty and Finn. This new record is full of suprises that will take you on a journey that i'm afraid you will never get out of.

The first song, "Sad Boy Meets Sad Girl" Could remind you of an intro song that Angels & Airwaves could have done. It's like floating around in space and looking down on your loved ones. This song is just beautiful.

With "Blonde To Red" takes you a little bit heavier with some really cool guitar licks that blends really well with an 80's kinda drum loop in the verses.

"I'm No Angel" It's a song that keeps you pumped. It starts with this cool trance sound and then bursts into a heavy beat lead by catchy hard guitars with verses i never thought i would hear in a song. Vocals that keeps you hooked with screams of pain and anguish.

"All That I Wanted" Starts with something that could remind you of Alkaline Trio with their dark tones. The breakdown part, again gives you that awesome floating in space vibe. A really good song that is filled with sadness and dark tones

"The Terrible Tale Of Two" Is a song that you just want to sit by yourself and think of the people you have lost in your life. The female vocals just give's you goosebumps, specially mixed with the sad cello parts, piano and the acoustic guitars.

Overall this is a really amazing record that will make you want more and more. Requiem For The Dead has a really unique sound that fits this band perfect. If you took "Angels & Airwaves" and "I AM GHOST" and mixed them together, you'll have "Requiem For The Dead" This has got to be the best Steven has done so far. The soundtrack of your life.

This is only the beginning of something great.

HELLBILLY DELUXE 2

First of all i'm not a huge fan of Rob Zombie, well not of his music.

When the first song started "Jesus Frankenstein" it thought this could be the beginning of something good, but i pretty much was wrong there, because it suddenly changed into something else, for me that ruined the whole creepy tone that i thought was going to be the song.

For me a lot of the songs has good riffs but Zombie kinda uses them all the way through the entire song, that could be a positive thing if you only could keep the parts interesting even if you still use the same riffs during the entire song, but after hearing the riffs like a hundred times it flops.

I feel this album was a little bit rushed, because the songs aren't welled planed. . Anyway it's not a bad album but not as good as Hellbilly Deluxe 1.

The song "Mars Needs Women" i really though Zombie was going for an acoustic song, but then again the song changed the whole dynamic and ruined it.

The album has songs that kinda goes up and down, some could remind you of Black Sabbath, Velvet Revolver, Rage Against Machine, Korn, also the cool synth sounds and cellos works very well.

The album was written by Rob Zombie and John 5, and that's cool because you can really hear the guitar solo's from John 5.

If you are going to a party, bring this album, because it sure reminds me of a good horror party. I bet Zombie had a lot of fun making this album.

Some of the highlight on this album is: What, Burn, Werewolf Baby, The Man Who Laughs.
